Sentimental Saturdays: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:  The Arcade Game was an awesome game based off an even better cartoon show that was created in ‘87.  The cartoon was such a hit Konami developed a video game based off of our beloved radioactive Turtles.  The cartoon was based off a comic that was written in ‘84 as a mockery of modern (at the time) superheroes.  Like most boys I grew up on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  When I was young and we owned a NES it was an awesome game to play, still today this original game (the arcade one, not the other TMNT game) is an excellent beat’em up game.  A lot like the Power Rangers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles seemed to grow away from the amazing series it was when I was young.  Now that I think about it Saturday cartoons are really sad now a days.  Maybe we should start a petition or something to try and stop crappy cartoons from stealing away the life of todays youth.  Saturdays used to be a day to look forward to, not only because it was the end of the school week but because there were cartoons in the morning.  I’m sorry about todays Sentimental Saturday, I guess I let it get away from video games and more into cartoons but it still delivered the point, which is recalling wonderful moments in our lives from our youth.  Well my youth.  Well this is Clix Games and this has been one truly Sentimental Saturday.

Virtual Monday: August 25

Today for the Virtual Console was some Japanesse original game for the TurboGrafx 16 called Ys: Book I and II.  This is a compelation game of both Ys: 1 and 2 that was released in Japan back in 1989 and later in North America.  The games are role playing games that have you gathering knowledge in order to defeat the evil that is taking over the land of Esteria.  This will run you 900 Wii points.  Next on the list is Samurai Showdown 2 for the Neo Geo (this is also 900 Wii points.)  This game is a versus fighting game and you get to play as Samurais.  This game is known for having some translation problems, I wonder if they fixed it for the VC.  And for WiiWare today we have a game called Helix.  This game is a musical game that requires you to use two Wii-motes and copy the motions of a dancing robot.  This game is one of Nintendo’s games designed for out of shape people to get in shap a “fun” way.  The cost of Helix is probably too much to actually pay for it.  So that was today in the Virtual world of Nintendo.

Sentimental Saturday: Super Mario Bros. 2

Super Mario Bros. 2 was such a different game from the first one.  Some people have never even thought of why this difference is.  In Japan, Nintendo was making a game called “Yume Kojo:  Doki Doki Panic”.  They had already made Super Mario Bros 2 but decided not to release it in North America (why?  I have no clue)  but instead they licensed Doki Doki Panic with Mario characters and released it in North America as Super Mario Bros. 2.

So this game was different and original from the other Mario games.  I remember playing this game and not getting too far.  The best boss fight was easily the first Birdo.  I don’t know why I think that, I just believe that it was cool that you had to throw its own eggs back at it.  If anyone has played this game they believe that Peach was the best to play as.  I agree.  But playing as Luigi is also beneficial.  He can jump really well and does that cool “running on air” deal.  This game was an excellent mistake to the Mario saga.

Chapters of the Chosen

Dragon Quest IV is set to be released here in the States September 15, that should give you enough time to beat it before Chrono Trigger comes out.  This game did crazy well in Japan when it came out last year and so did DQ V, but more on that in another post.  Anyway, Chapters of the Chosen will be the second time this game has been rereleased.  An NES original, later ported to the PS1, is now almost available in sweet portable form.  This isn’t a huge revamp, but a rather small update from the PS1 version.  It is still drastically different than the original.  I won’t spoil any story for you if you don’t know it yet, but as the title says, there are I think four or five characters whom each have their own chapter and then somehow it all ties together in the end.  I am immensely looking forward to this game because I have only played the first hour on an emulator and then I think I gave up, and the emulator gave up on me.  DQIV should be an excellent time.  I hope to have preview of the game upon my purchase of it, and then a formal review upon conquering it!  Can’t wait!

Hey all of you that read our site.  So recently I’ve been on my XBOX 360 playing some Gears of War getting ready for Gears 2 (whenever that comes out) and also some Halo 3 multiplayer.  Man I sure do love a good round of Rockets or Pistols with no shields, thats also a lot of fun.  But mostly I’ve been playing my old school bulky grey Nintendo DS.  I actually prefer it over the DS Lites, they feel too fragile, specially when you are doing a drift in Mario Kart DS (good game by the way).  For the DS I’ve been playing Final Fantasy 4.  I just got it the other day and I’m not too far because I spent a good chunk of time leveling up my characters in order to beat that Octomouth thing in the beginning.  Then after I heard Tellah say,” You spoony bard!”  I saved it and stopped playing.  Many fanboys and even regular fans know whats behind “You spoony bard.”  Its quite possibly the most famous quote from the entire Final Fantasy series and now you can hear Tellah say it on the DS.  Its really a good game.  I was thinking about if it would be worth buying if you already owned it for the Advance and I’m still not sure if I would or not but if you have a DS and don’t have FFIV already I would advise playing it.   Well there you go, thats been a game in the life of Icarus here at Clix Games.

Virtual Monday: August 18th

Well today two games for the VC and 1 for the Wii Ware.  When I hear it was going to be a mega-monday I got pretty excited and thought that it was Mega Man 9, but it wasn’t.  Today for the NES Mega Man came out.  This was the original one, Number 1.  Again this is a classic game and most of you who read this should know what its about.  There are six stages and at the end of each stage there is an elemental robot that once you defeat (if you can beat it) leaves behind a weapon that matches his element.  Mega Man is trying to ultimately defeat Dr. Albert W. Willy (he’s the bad guy) and you need all these weapons from each stage to do so.  I would definitely recommend laying down five bucks for this classic Mega Man game, and also it can prepare you for Mega Man 9.  Next on the VC list is a game called Neo Turf Masters for the NeoGeo at 900 Wii points.  This is a golf game, yeah cause thats what we’ve all been asking Nintendo to give us on the VC.  Anyway its a golf game that takes you to courses all around the world.  Doesn’t actually look too bad but for 9 bucks save your money and buy something better.  And now for the Wii Ware title of the day, Midnight Pool for 800 Wii points.  This is a pool game that has you traveling the US participating in tournaments and gambling your money in bars.  I would say if you were into pool, this looks like one of your better choices for a Wii title right this moment.  So this has been a Virtual Monday, catch all the release for the Virtual Console right here on Clix Games.

Bionic Commando for the XBOX 360

Back in my youth we owned a NES, and I saw that it was good.  One of the games I remember owning was Bionic Commando.  Others included Zelda, Castlevania, Castle Quest,  Blades of Steel, Super Mario Brothers, Excite Bike, and many more (those are just the ones I wanted to mention.)  Anyway back to Bionic Commando, it was an extremely difficult game.  The main character(Radd Spencer) had a robotic, or bionic, arm that could extend and grapple things.  In Japan this game was known as Top Secret:  Hitler’s Revival, I just thought that was interesting so I’m putting it out there.  The bad guys in the game were actually Nazis.  Anyway point is there is a new game coming out for the XBOX 360 sometime in 2009.  I’m guessing its not about the Nazi’s anymore but I don’t know it could be.  I saw a sweet video of the use of his bionic arm and it look a whole lot like Spider-Man 2 where you swing around the city but I doubt they would use the same mechanics.  So yes.  Bionic Commando.  XBOX 360.  Sounds good to me, actually I really hope the first one comes out on the Virtual Console

Sentimental Saturday: Super Mario Brothers

This Saturday we are going to look at one of the worlds greatest games that kicked off an entire series that continues to rock.  Super Mario Brothers came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985 known as the sequel to Mario Brothers(we are not going to get into that game today.)  If you don’t know the storyline to this game you have been living under a rock for the past 23 years.  But just incase you have and you decided to come out of from under your rock just to visit Clix games here it is.  King Koopa has kidnapped the princess (Oh No!) and its up to you, Mario, and your brother Luigi (two Italian plumbers) to travel the Mushroom Kingdom killing goombas and koopas and piranha plants.  There are 8 worlds that you have to beat, each with a castle at the end.  Once you beat the castle you find your buddy, latter named toad (even though he is a mushroom,) who tells you that your Princess is in another castle.  The thing that made this game soo great, I think, is a combo of the sweet power ups and the whole platform feel of it.  The power ups are awesome.  Do you want to shoot fireballs out of your hands?  Get a fire Flower.  Do you want to grow big after getting hurt?  Eat a mushroom.  This classic game is an easy no brainer to pick up in any form you can still get it.  This is Icarus from Clix Games and this has been a Sentimental Saturday.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Personally I am really really looking forward to this game.  Last night I saw Clone Wars and wasn’t too impressed but certainly it was a star wars film that I needed to see.  The Forced Unleashed is a brand new story based on Darth Vader’s apprentice.  The story takes place between episode 3 and 4.  The developers wanted to make a game based on the force and they came up with Force Unleashed.  There are many force moves to chose from and most of them appear outrageously devastating.  In the game you will use the force(and your lightsaber) to destroy rouge Jedi per command of Darth Vader.  This is going to be released September 16 for the XBOX 360, PS3, Wii, Nintendo DS, and PSP.  Yes, I think this game is going to ROCK, I just hope it delivers
