Well honestly it’s purely coincidence that the day I decided to start posting again was the day that I have been waiting for for a long time.  Today’s virtual console release sent a chill down my back, a chill of nostalgia, of love, of all the things my childhood stood for.  Well maybe not all the things.  But it truely is a happy day.  Today, for the NES, Super Mario Bros. 3 came out (500 Wii points).  While many of us have played, and beat this game at least once in our lives.  Others have played much more than once.  Even though I own it for the gameboy I am still buying it for my Wii.  This game was the best.  If you don’t know about it, you need to go look it up because it would be to difficult for me to explain its awe.  Next on the VC list is Power Golf for the Turbo-grafx(600 Wii points).   Its a golf game, there is not much to say.  And finally on this amazing monday, Alien Soldier for the Sega (900 Wii points) Note that its 900 points, sometimes, for some reasons the prices are higher for some games.  This game is a side-scrolling shooter, kinda like contra.  With multiple weapons you can use and two different difficulty settings this game shouldn’t get old too quickly.  Well Today’s release of SMB3 was slightly expected seeing that its getting really close to the release of  Galaxy, which is going to kick butt.  But I’m still really glad that it came out.  Till next time keep rocking out and playing video games.

My Zelda

I have received the Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.  Due to time limitations of my busy schedule, Ive only had like an hour to fool around with it, but so far it’s the best DS experience I have had.  Single player that is.  The games graphics are top noch.  I understand that the DS has its limits, but some games look all grainy and stuff.  This game seems to bypass that with very little bad graphicking.  In other words, it blows alot of other stuff out of the water.  I personally think they should make some 2-d Metroid, Zelda, and Mario on the DS.  Heck, even the Wii.  I was thinking, and wouldn’t 2-d games run insanely fast and smooth on a newer system like those?  I think it’s a no brainer.  I’m going to start a game studio and make 2-d games for the new systems.  Another thing on that note about the systems.  I was realizing how little time is in between each new console.  It seemed like yesterday that the ps2 and xbox etc, were top of the line.  Time just really flies I guess.  It’s been two years since the xbox 360 launched so that’s like another 3-4 right?  I think they should just stick with a system for longer.  I do really love how technology advances, its just a little heavy on your pocket.  I also missed out on staying up all night and waiting in line for any of the new ones.  Me and my fellow blogger, editor, whatever his/our title is, are going to be there next time, in a few or four years.  This has been a collection of things I’ve been storing in my brain today, thanks for listening.

WOOT WOOT!  Here is a step up folks.  It must be release what wasn’t released in the US day because thats what it is.  First off we have what was in Japan rightly Super Mario Bros. 2 (known to Americans as the Lost worlds) and Sin and Punishment, which is for the N64 but was never released in America.  Fist Super Mario Bros. The Lost World.  This was a lot harder than the first and third, and second too I guess.  But it was good.  First time North Americans saw it was in Super Mario All Stars (an excellent game), wait why doesn’t nintendo just release that?  Anyway you should surely pick up this game for 500 Wii points.  Next off is a game called “Sin and Punishment:  Succesesor of the Earth”.  Wow, what a title.  Anyway this game was translated by a fan base called Vanit Studios, but other than that, it hasn’t been in english.  This games higher price threw me for a little curve for a second, its 1200 Wii points, for a N64 title.  The game is a shooter game on a rail (where you don’t actually move the charecter you just jump, sidestep, roll, and stuff like that.)  I’ve heard this game is really good so I might be interested in getting it.  Well it was a good day for fans, I guess Nintendo is doing the best they can, but I’m still not 100 % sastisfied with what they are giving.  But I can wait for Super Mario Brothers 3.  Till then I have plenty of homework to do.

Man, school is really busy.  But I’m sure you will be glad to know that I got a 96 on my Civics test.  Not glad?  Well how bout this, its Monday, also known as Virtual Console day.  Today some stuff came out, you know games that we might play but not soo much.  I was expecting Nintendo to give us an answer for Halo 3 but, we didn’t get anything that good.  Well first off for Super Nintendo is Kirby’s Avalanche (800 Wii points).  At first glance I was a little excited and then I remebered that it was just a puzzle game.  If they want to give us a puzzle game, please give us Tetris Attack.  That was the 2nd best puzzle game ever, Tetris being the first of course.  But if you like puzzle games, and you like Kirby, it might be worth 8 bucks.  Next, a game which probably is pretty good, Streets of Rage 3 for the Sega(800 Wii points).  As I’ve said before, I love Streets of Rage 2, and I’m assuming that Streets of Rage 3 is better, if not the same.  So if you liked two, which I did, then you should pick up 3, which I probably will sometime.  And last but certainly least, well actually I’ve never heard of it, Legend of Hero Tonma (TG-16  600 Wii points).  But basically this is on of thoose cliche games where you need to save the princess and you can jump on the heads of your enemies.  Quite frankly I was ashamed of the list today, Microsoft has Halo 3 this week and what do we get?  Some Mario rip off dude who not too many people have heard of, some puzzle game, and an all right sequel to a great fighting game.  Seriously, where is my Super Mario Brothers 3?

Yay, its a Monday again!  More games for my VC!  Today we got an N64 game, but not one I had thought of getting.  So for the N64 we get Yoshi’s Story (1000 Wii points).  This game was really short, good but short.  Also, it’s a Yoshi game, take that how you will, its also pretty kiddy.  Baby Bowser puts a curse on Yoshi’s Island and also steals the Super Happy tree, which is like the basis of life for all Yoshi’s.  Thats right, you have to get it back.  Well I don’t know if I’m going to get this but its not terrible, I guess.  Next on the VC list for today is Super Thunder Blade for the Sega (800 Wii Points).  This is one of thoose fly around and kill all the bad guy’s  games.  If you like arcade style flying killers, this game is pretty good.  As a sequel to Thunder Blade, Super Thunder Blade adds new levels and upgraded weapons.  Finally for the 17th of September is World Class Baseball for the T-16 (600 Wii points).  And like the same thing with most other sports games, you can’t really say too much that isn’t obvious.  So here is something you might not know about this game.  Its exactly like all the other baseball games for early generation systems, well maybe slightly different but like they say,”Variety is the spice of life.”  And so passes another VC release date without Super Mario Brothers 3.

Timeless Tuesday: The Legend of Zelda

This is the game that started it all folks.  The hours of sweaty palms is all because of this one game that came out o so long ago.  The release was August 22, 1987!  Wow, I was almost alive then.  This game was the first adventure Link took to go and save the princess Zelda.  To collect all the pieces of the Triforce can be very difficult in this game if you don’t know what you’re doing.  This tuesday I’m starting a course in the History of Gaming entitled “Timeless Tuesdays”.  I’ll pick a game a Tuesday and talk and remminisce about it.  So today I’ll remeber playing Zelda on my NES (a bit after it came out) and not knowing how to get to the second dungeon.  Also spending hours just trying to get to the bottom corner of the map where you have to choose the right path in that messed up maze.  If you have never played The Legend of Zelda, shame on you, and also you should play it for something.

Well today we got some more games for the VC, just like every other Monday.  First off, Sonic 3 for Sega, 800 Wii points.  For fans of the series you know who made their first appearance in this game, Knuckles, only he started out as a bad guy.  This was a great game to play 11 years ago, Do you know whats changed in the past 13 years?  A lot, but Sonic 3 is still a good game to play.  Only if you buy it with the Sonic mega collection, you will get more bang for your buck.  Next on the list, NES Play Action Football for 500 Wii points.  Thats really all I can say other than “It’s a Football game.”  And last but certainly not least Neutopia 2 (T16) for 600 Wii points.  I’m pretty sure the first one just came out recently on the VC also, but if you’re a fan of the series here is number 2.  I never played it but it looks just like A Link to the Past, and also identical to the first Neutopia.  Man, still no sign of Super Mario Bros 3.

Well today is monday.  And that means its Monday.  It also means Virtual Console release day.  So today came the third and last Bonk game for the T16 but later a Super Bonk was made for the SNES.  Yup, Bonk’s Adventure 3 came out for the T16 at only 600 Wii points.  It wasn’t as good as the others but still a quality platformer for good platforming fans.  Next on the list, a real great game(well maybe not) Donkey Kong Jr. Math for the NES (500 Wii points).  Its an olden day Brain Age, just it didn’t tell you how smart you were, you just lost when you were dumb.  And next for the VC is Landstalker:  The treasures of King Nole for Sega (800 Wii points).  This is a game very similar to Zelda: A link to the past.  Your player is a treasure hunter with his little Wood Nymph and they are looking for King Nole’s treasure.  And finally for today’s release is Adventure Island for the NES (500 Wii points)  This game is a classic, its a bit tricky to get use to because you can’t actually jump on the creatures to kill them.  Run around collecting fruit to keep your life up, collect power ups (like hammers or something) to throw at your enemies.  Its a good old game.  So yet another VC day passes us by without giving us Super Mario Bros. 3, tsk tsk Nintendo.

The Bigs

First let me just say,  I guess someone else feels there is a lack of sports games too because they just recently announced NBA Live 08 for the Wii.  Since my last post about sports pointed out a lack in games I decided to do some research on The Bigs.  The Bigs is an arcade style baseball game created by 2K sports that came out on June 25th 2007.  It’s not exactly a baseball simulation because you can do crazy things that I’m pretty sure no one in real life could do.  Like say if you timed your pitch perfectly you throw a strike thats on fire, I have yet to see that in the MLB.  This was indeed the first full baseball game to come out for the Wii.  I wish it would have been be EA Sports, but beggars can’t be choosers.  There is no Franchise mode in The Bigs but there is a mode called the Rookie Challenge, where you create a player and try to take him to the top of the leauge.  The Wii controls work pretty much just as you would think they do in a baseball game.  While fielding  you must flick the Wii-mote right for first base, up for second, left for third, and down for home.   This larger than life baseball game seems to be loads of fun and good times.

Well the Nintendo Wii’s virtual console is updated every Monday, so here is what came out. Cratermaze, for the Turbografx-16, Shining in the Darkness for sega, and last but not least, Metroid for the NES. Honestly I never had any Sega games growing up except Streets of Rage 2(which rocks) so I have no clue Cratermaze or Shining in the Darkness. But I do know for sure that Metroid is a really good game. Samus was the pioneer for female hero’s(thank goodness). If you don’t have this game in a different form(like its on the classics for GBA and also playable on Metroid Zero Mission) I would deffinetly pick it up for a measly 5 bucks on the VC.
