Sentimental Saturday: Super Mario World

Hey all.  Clix Games is finally back up, thanks to our awesome Technical Administrator.  He is good.  Anyway, today is a saturday, and since I haven’t posted (this time it is due to technical problems, not negligence)  in a while a figured I should start off with my Classic gaming series.

Today I’m going to reminisce about Super Mario World.  This is an incredible game.  It made its appearance stateside in August of 1991.  It has since been released on the Gameboy advance and on the Wii Virtual Console.  When the game came out it became a promotion for the SNES.  If you bought a SNES you would get Super Mario World with it.  While this didn’t last long it certainly boosted sales for the SNES.

This game is sometimes known as Super Mario Bros 4.  And like all the other games in the series became an instant classic (Well Super Mario Bros 2 was good but not in the same sense as the rest of the Super Mario Bros games.)  The things that made the other Mario games soo great are also in this game.  I was thinking last night while I was playing World, “What happened to all the Items from SMB3?.”   I missed the P Wing.  The things about Super Mario World that I like better are as follows:  Yoshi is a big help in time of need, When you have a mushroom and there is a feather in the air, and you get hit and loose your mushroom you can still grab the feather and get a cape,  There are secret endings to a lot of the endings, and you can fly forever with a cape.

This is one of those games that I have memorized where things are in levels and how to get to the secret worlds and levels.  How convenient is that?  What else can you use that skill for?  Certainly not studying, thats for sure.  Anyway, I’ve played this game over and over again and it still has plenty of gameplay left in it.  Easily one of the best games in the history of ever.
